Have you ever wondered what the Catharijnesingel used to look like in the past or what the design is for the new shops and apartments building De Vredenburg? What was it like in the past, what is the present situation and what are the plans for the future? On this page you will find an overview in images of the various projects in the Station Area through the years.

The Catharijnesingel canal
An eleven-lane highway was built in the seventies at the location of a former canal. In the future water will be restored again in the canal.

   


Shops and apartments building De Vredenburg
This shops and apartments building will be built at the place that in the 16th century was the location of Vredenburg castle.
 
    

    

Vredenburg square
The former location of a car park and the Utrecht Jaarbeurs, later became an open square, where a market is organised three times a week. In the future, the market will remain at the Vredenburg square, but the square needs to become more of a town square.

Music Centre/ Music Palace
The new Music Palace will arise in 2012 at the present location of Music Centre Vredenburg.

Central Station/ Public Transport Terminal
A modern public transport terminal will replace the current Utrecht Central Station.

Station square/New Stationsstraat
The Station square is the street that runs parallel to the tracks along Hoog Catharijne. In the future this will be the location of the new Stationsstraat. Above you can see both the southern (above) and the northern part (below) of the Station square/new Stationsstraat.

   

Jaarbeurs square
On the west side of the station you will in the future be able to see the renovated Jaarbeurs square from the new Station Square West.

Mega cinema and Casino
The Jaarbeurs premises will in the future be the location of mega cinema of Wolff Cinema Group. Diagonally across from the present Beatrix theatre the new casino will arise. This building will replace the provisional building on the other side of the Jaarbeurs.
