Location Moreelsehoek - Moreelse corner

Until 2013, this place, which we now call the Moreelsehoek, was the final stop of the SUNIJ line, the express tram from Utrecht to Nieuwegein and IJsselstein. In 2013, the final stop disappeared and a new tram station connecting to Utrecht Central was built under the Zuidgebouw, or ‘Het Platform’. That's the white building on top of the tracks, which looks a bit like a big pile of randomly stacked blocks. This used to be the site of a large bus station as well, which has been moved to the other side and has been integrated into Utrecht Central Station. At the bus station that was located here, you also found the stop for the infamous bus 12 to the Utrecht Science Park on the outskirts of Utrecht. Many Dutch people still know this as ‘De Uithof’. It was always very easy to find this stop, because it seemed like there were always a few hundred people waiting for one bus at the same time. Bus line 12 suffered from a terrible under capacity for years, despite the use of extra-large double-jointed buses and a high ride frequency. That is now a thing of the past, because a new tramline has been built between Utrecht Central Station and the Science Park.

Let's talk about the building Het Platform. Spread over the entire building you can see an extensive stud pattern on the white facade panels. If you look to the left of the building, you will see a glass wall running along the back of the stairs of the Moreelse bridge, with a large sliding gate with a pattern of holes in it. Those holes have the same pattern as the studs on the building. Nicely thought out by the architect.
