Utrecht is not Utrecht without music on the Vredenburg Square.
Tivoli, Jazz Utrecht Foundation and Vredenburg Music Centre will in the future be merged in the new Music Palace, which will offer space for five music halls with more than5,000 seats. The large hall of the ‘old’ Vredenburg Music Centre designed by architect Herman Hertzberger will be retained and four new halls will be added for pop, jazz, cross-over and chamber music. Loading and unloading will in the future take place underground, and no longer cause inconvenience above ground. This will also make space available for a ‘music square’ with an outdoor cafe along the restored Catharijnesingel canal. The Music Palace will thus become a true icon for the city.
