ProRail
ProRail keeps things on track
ProRail is responsible for the construction of the new Public Transport Terminal in the Utrecht station area. This includes the construction of the new station hall, the new bus stations, a bicycle building for 9,000 bicycles and the replacement of the roofs above the platforms.
ProRail works closely together with the other partners involved, such as the Utrecht council and NS (Dutch Railways). In a small area, a lot of activities need to be carried out at the same time. And all this while the trains, buses and trams have to continue on schedule and some 200,000 passengers have to find their way each day. That can only be done by proper collaboration.
Not only Utrecht Central Station will be drastically renovated in the coming years. Amsterdam Central Station, Amsterdam South, The Hague Central, Rotterdam Central, Breda, Arnhem and Delft will be completely renovated. ProRail is responsible for the construction of the station buildings and the rail infrastructure. The new stations will have to meet the wishes and demands of the future and will be large enough to cope with the growing number of passengers.
Every day some 5000 passenger trains and 280 cargo trains travel across the Dutch railway network. Each day they transport more than one million passengers and 100,000 tonnes of goods. This mobility on the national railway network with a total length of 6,500 kilometres is of enormous economic and social importance. This transport would not be possible without the activities of ProRail. ProRail provides capacity, reliability and safety on the Dutch railway network. In short, ProRail keeps things on track.
